Hi, my name is Rachel Alencar, and I am a Master of Counselling Psychology candidate dedicated to helping individuals find clarity and balance to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. With a multicultural background and over ten years of experience in customer service and qualitative marketing research, I bring a unique blend of analytical skills and empathy to my work. I am supervised by an experienced practitioner who upholds the highest standards of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Additionally, I am a proud student member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
How I Can Support You
Life’s challenges can often feel overwhelming, whether they stem from career transitions, burnout, grief, or navigating complex personal dynamics. My therapeutic approach combines evidence-based methods and a comprehensive understanding of the mind, body, and social environment to provide compassionate and effective support. I specialize in working with adults facing:
Chronic illness
Grief and loss
Emotional dysregulation
Immigration and cultural adjustment
Career transitions and burnout
Using Strength-Based, Person-Centered, and Meaning-Centered approaches, I tailor my practice to your unique needs. I also integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), nurturing a safe and supportive space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes.
A Culturally Informed Perspective
As a Latin immigrant fluent in both Portuguese and English, I have a deep appreciation for the complexities of cultural identity and adjustment. My work with a diverse range of clients has strengthened my ability to build trust and foster inclusivity. I am committed to applying an anti-oppression lens to my practice, ensuring that all individuals feel valued and supported, especially those from historically excluded communities.
What I Believe
Life is unpredictable and can challenge our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. While pain and suffering are universal experiences, they also hold the potential for growth and transformation. I believe in the resilience of the human spirit and am here to help you navigate life’s uncertainties with strength and purpose.

Is a Counselling Graduate Student right for me?
Professional Oversight
The psychotherapist's work is overseen by a more experienced supervisor, which can enhance the quality of care, ensure adherence to ethical standards, and provide a safety net for both client and therapist.
Fresh Perspectives
Often, these therapists are recent graduates who bring fresh perspectives and up-to-date knowledge from their training.
Reduced Rates
Supervised therapists sometimes offer services at a reduced rate, making therapy more accessible to those with limited financial resources.
Increased Accountability
The presence of a supervisor ensures that the therapist's approaches and techniques are regularly reviewed and critiqued, promoting continual professional development and safety. The therapist, being supported by a supervisor, can provide a high level of care as they can consult with their supervisor on complex cases.
Complex Needs Are Not Indicated
Complex cases might not be best suited for treatment by supervised registered psychotherapists due to their limited experience.
Sessions Are Recorded For Supervision Purposes
Some clients might be uncomfortable knowing that details of their therapy sessions are shared with a supervisor.
